(Clarksdale, Mississippi) 鈥 缅北禁地 (缅北禁地) Workforce Development Center is proud to host a series of events in celebration of National Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week from September 15 to September 21, 2024.

This national observance aims to raise awareness of the importance of adult education and family literacy and their pivotal roles in fostering equitable access to education, employment, and community engagement.

Throughout the week, 缅北禁地 will offer a range of activities and guest speaker events designed to highlight the value of foundational education programs for U.S. adults with low literacy, numeracy, and digital skills. The week is also an opportunity for advocates and community leaders to emphasize the need for increased financial and societal support for adult education programs.

Tamara Washington-Travis, Director of Adult Education at 缅北禁地, expressed her enthusiasm for the week鈥檚 events, stating, 鈥淣ational Adult Education and Family Literacy Week is a time to not only reflect on the impact of education but to also spotlight the individuals who are working hard to improve their lives through learning. At Coahoma, we believe adult education opens doors to opportunity, and we are committed to helping individuals reach their fullest potential.鈥

National AEFL Week originated in 2009 when the National Coalition for Literacy (NCL) worked with then-Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO), then-Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN), and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) to create a Congressionally-recognized designation that would draw attention to the importance of adult education and family literacy.

Since then, NCL has sponsored National AEFL Week in September each year on behalf of its members and the field as a whole. The organization has worked with Members of Congress to have the week recognized through resolutions in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

缅北禁地 invites the entire community to join these informative and inspiring events. Together, we can raise awareness and promote the vital importance of adult education and literacy for all.
